Stravanger

Stravanger. We were due to dock late morning so expected a lie in but that wasn’t the case so we decided to do up on the sun deck and relax. We    we in the port Mekjarvik. As it was quite chill we asked for a blanket each. As the morning wore on so it became warmer. The team had been let down by local operators consequently there were a number of people waiting to go ashore. I looked over side and saw buses and a queue so we went down and joined. It was mayhem, most unlike Disney . The coaches started to arrive and we transferred to    Stravanger. It was a pretty little Nordic town where managed to get a few gifts. We were both tired following our unexpected    call so after a couple of hours we caught the coach back to the ship. We had lunch by now the temperature was really hot. We went and had lunch then repacked and waited for the others to return before we could set off. Once we were under way we changed for dinner. Another glorious meal.followed by t...

Oslo

Oslo We left Denmark and sailed south to Norway., in fact we were still sailing when we awake but tied up soon after. We were in the Frognerkilen which is a bay in the inner Oslofjord of Norway, east of the Bygdøy peninsula. Its name stems from the neighbourhood Frogner, a name which was taken from a farm. It was formerly known, with Bestumkilen, under the name of Ladegaardsfjordene.  We had breakfast and walked down to the quayside where hop on-hop off buses were waiting. We purchased tickets and went on an interesting and informative tour. We decided that as we were not in port that long we would simply do the tour and would not alight the bus at any stage. I took plenty of photos including, of course, trams. At the tour’s end we left the bus and went to the souvenir shop situated on the dockside and made a few purchases. We then boarded the ship and went directly to lunch. After we’d eaten we collected our books and went up top to read. Whist up there the ship set sail al...

Copenhagen

We awoke to find ourselves in Copenhagen. After breakfast we went ashore to find the open deck buses waiting at the dockside so we didn’t need to take the shuttle bus into the city first. We alighted the bus at the Central Station/Tivoli park stop and wandered around this part of the city. Here in the heart of Copenhagen lies the world’s second-oldest amusement park, Tivoli Gardens. Ever since 1843, Tivoli Gardens has offered a world of amazing experiences.    What I could see from the outside there was a white knuckle ride to beat all white knuckle rides, so we didn’t go in. Having exhausted this part if the city we re boarded the bus and drove through this lovely city listening to the commentary and admiring the sites. We arrived at the Little Mermaid which is a must see sight if visiting Copenhagen. With that picture taken we returned to the ship for lunch. After lunch we sat in the sunshine and the AquaDuck kept calling so I had another go. Poor Val would have joined me bu...

Monday and Tuesday

Monday 4th Despite the missing hour we were up for breakfast at 08:00 as we were having a run ashore. After we’d eaten we took the shuttle bus to Blankenburg. A pretty little town, not much here apart from the church of St Antonio’s, the interior of which is probably the most beautiful I’ve ever witnessed. We wandered around the town and I managed to get my obligatory picture of a tram. We then took the shuttle bus back to the ship and went straight up to lunch. After lunch we went and changed into swim wear and went back up to deck 11 where we had a go on the AquaDuck water slide (Goggle it)It is a slide in a tunnel, part of which is in complete darkness, you go through the ship’s funnel and drop four decks. It’s really good fun and exciting. The hardest part for Val and I is getting in and out of the rubber raft. However typical of Disney staff they are so kind and patient. We then sat in the hot sun and dried off whilst watching a film. It then became time to change for dinner...
